Furniture fabulous

Studio Mignone’s Tavolo Morbido table instantly went viral on Instagram and was snapped up by design houses like Louis Vuitton as the centrepiece of its Summer Lounge. The marshmallow-like pillars made from balloon-cast concrete lozenges used to hold the glass table are deceptively solid and can be sold on their own.

Pricing for the table starts from €3842 and payment plans are available on the brand’s website. Watch out for the studio’s sample sales where they sell pillars and one-off objects for a fraction of the price.

Mix and match colours and customise the table to your liking — this will be the pièce de résistance of your living room for years to come. Shop at studiomignone.com or shop.sightunseen.com.

Rock of ages

My over-stimulated brain sometimes forgets the time when rocking back and forth was one of life’s greatest pleasures. I have nothing but fond memories of riding my rocking donkey Neddy: he had the physique of an ass but the stamina of a stallion.

A Little Bird Told Me makes drop-dead gorgeous ride-on toys that are, by and large, made with washable or biodegradable materials. Imagine your little one on this Hubert Highland cow — it’s the perfect antidote to tablets and tech toys. Buy this shaggy little cutie from Munchkins Toys & Shoes in Gorey or from Roscommon-based online store kidiko.ie.

Dog days

While pet owners can’t avoid hair shedding or drooly kisses, (and why would you want to, Barbarian?) you can choose sleek designs that combine form and function. MiaCara has streamlined dog and cat furniture with everything from beds to climbing frames, feeding bowls and play toys.

We love the memory foam Comodo dog bed in slate grey for €229. It’s soft, good for your dog’s joints and comes with a leather handle. Check out the rest of the collection at miacara.com.

Tray chic

Glamp up your duvet day with the a Cruinn tray, €250, from Wicklow’s Bear Creations which comes in pomegranate, ash, walnut, or midnight blue. A lot larger than it looks, this beauty would hold 14 doughnuts (yes, we’ve checked) or the latest Sally Rooney and a filter brew — whatever you need to enjoy your ‘me time’ in bed or on the couch.

Shop these at bearcreation.com or speak with the team about creating a bespoke piece of furniture. And if you know someone who will play the role of butler for a day, I salute you.

Magical message

When I was struggling with hair regrowth after losing it all to alopecia, my best friend commissioned a print of me — bald-headed and becoming.

Inscribed with the message ‘Beautiful: inside and out’, every time I look at that print, I am reminded of how far I have come. Something as simple as a postcard-sized picture gets me right in the jugular, as does one of Laura Jayne Halton’s illustrations.

I’m transfixed by The Leap of Faith, €189, which shows a diver mid-jump — it’s as if she is flying. What comes to mind? Women are amazing. They dive into projects without knowing the outcome or how deep the water is — hang this print where you’ll see it every day. Available at laurajaynehalton.com.

Blades of (stainless) steel

Whether you’re hosting the neighbourhood supper club or planning to open your own restaurant, investing in tools with longevity and quality will elevate your dish and your kitchen cred. Sam Dunn’s bladework is exquisite and it’s local too — he practises his craft from the verdant hills of his workshop in Glengarriff.

Take one look at Dunn Bladworks’ pink poplar knife, €380 and you’ll be chopping and dicing in your daydreams. Made from stainless steel, this European-style knife is suitable for precision cutting of fine edges and is resistant to heat and other elements. Check out Sam’s new knife drop November 16 at dunnbladeworks.com.

Spooky season

When it comes to Halloween, I’m much more of a pumpkin-spiced latte type than a severed-foot-in-the-garden type. With the spooky season on the way, pumpkins are inspiring everything from our coffee to our interior decor and this sparky pendant skirt lamp from Broste Copenhagen, €325, bursts with warmth and optimism.

One for the history lovers

Tell us you’re from Cork without telling us you’re from Cork — when the evenings get cold, you turn to Michael Collins for warmth. Drinks with friends just got a lot more cosy with this Foxford limited special edition throw, €185, from Kilkenny Design.

Replete with our favourite patriot’s silhouette, his signature and a nod to his home in Clonakilty, this is the ultimate piece for any history lover’s home.

It’s made in the image of one that was presented to Collins in 1922 and subsequently recovered from his car at the Béal na Bláth ambush. What a precious way to get closer to our history. Shop at kilkennydesign.com.
