Mossy Lawler has become the latest member of the Munster coaching staff to sign a two-year contract extension which will keep the Skills and Assistant Attack Coach on board with his home province until the summer of 2027.

Attack Coach Mike Prendergast and Defence Coach Denis Leamy both signed two-year contract extensions last month.

Lawler is in his second season at his home province following eight years with Connacht as attack and skills coach and was last week touted by Mike Prendergast as his potential successor in the same role at Munster were the current incumbent to be successful in his pursuit of the head coach vacancy.

“I'm fortunate to have someone like Mossy Lawler there who's an experienced attack coach,” Prendergast said when throwing his hat into the ring.

“So if it was to materialise that way, if the decision came, you have someone in the building that you'd be able to share the workload, along with the other coaches.”

Lawler played with Munster from 2000 to 2008, enjoying Champions Cup, Celtic League and Celtic Cup success before moving to the English Premiership with Wasps.

It has been a time period that has seen significant change in the coaching layout at the province. Graham Rowntree's departure as head coach was soon followed by forwards coach Andi Kyriacou's exit a number of weeks ago.

Kyriacou's was swiftly replaced by set-piece guru Alex Codling as forward coach consultant and the instalment of former Hurricanes and Northampton Saints head coach Chris Boyd as performance consultant was confirmed soon after.
