Munster and Springbok lock Jean Kleyn has confirmed he has gone under the knife again after suffering a quad muscle injury.
The province reported on Monday that Kleyn was to see a specialist this week concerning a thigh issue, but Kleyn has now confirmed, via an Instagram post, that he has gone down the surgery route to rectify the problem.
Kleyn was a late withdrawal from the South Africa team for their Autumn Nations Series game against Wales several weeks back. He had been set to start his first Test since the successful World Cup tilt.
Having been injured for the majority of 2024, the 31-year-old had started all six of Munster's URC games prior to the Autumn internationals.
Kleyn's surgery comes hot on the heels of the news that Craig Casey suffered a meniscus tear in his knee during Munster's defeat to Castres in the Champions Cup on Friday. The scrum-half will see a specialist this week to undergo knee surgery.
Casey exited the game after 30 minutes and was on crutches afterwards. Munster interim head coach Ian Costello said it appeared Casey had suffered the injury when his "studs got caught in the ground".
Winger Thaakir Abraham sustained a dislocated shoulder against Castres. He will undergo scans this week to determine whether surgery is required.
Dian Bleuler, the South African prop recently signed on a short-term deal to ease Munster's prop problems, failed a HIA during the game and is following return-to-play protocols. He will not be available for this weekend's URC clash with Ulster.
The availability of both Diarmuid Barron and Peter O'Mahony will be determined later this week. Hooker Barron passed a HIA and is being monitored following a shoulder injury while O'Mahony suffered a calf contusion.
Conor Murray remains unavailable due to an elbow injury, while Liam Coombes underwent surgery last week after sustaining a chest muscle injury during an AIL game.
