Damien Duff says he intends the full potential of Shelbourne’s new striker Mipo Odubeko during their league defence.
Shels open their campaign against Derry City at Tolka Park on Valentine’s Day and their boss was gushing the gratitude on the former West Ham United first-teamer.
As revealed in the
last week, the 22-year-old has agreed a long-term contract off the back of a spell at Fleetwood Town, where he made 11 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal. The Dubliner began his cross-channel career at Manchester City before he made the short hop across the divide to join rivals Manchester United, where he played a big role in their Academy for the next three years.
West Ham was the next port of call for the talented Tallaght native and the Hammers saw off stiff competition to secure his services.
A strong, fast and highly-rated striker, he left West Ham to join Huddersfield Town on loan, and also had spells at Doncaster Rovers and Port Vale.
Duff said: “Every team in Ireland wanted Mipo but I am proud that he has chosen this special club. He was excited to join the champions but I think the real reason he is here is because we are the no 1 place to unlock potential and get the best out of players. He has amazing power, speed and finishing that maybe not enough people have seen.
"The staff and I plan on unleashing all of it. He is a fascinating signing.”
Odubeko added: “I’m honoured to join Shelbourne FC, a club with incredible history and loyal supporters. My focus is clear: work hard, improve every day, and give everything to help the team win. I’m here to play my part, fight for this badge, and contribute to a successful season. I can’t wait to get started.”
