Super League club Maree have had their ban from this season's Pat Duffy National Cup upheld by the the National Appeals Committee.

However, Maree's 24-point penalty for this season's Men's Super League season has been reduced to 18 following an appeal hearing on Wednesday.

Last month Maree were punished having been found guilty on a charge of attempting to register players using falsified documents.

As well as the cup ban and points deduction, a fine of €3000 was imposed on the club.

With confirmation of the cup exclusion, Maree's scheduled Pat Duffy National Cup game against Garvey’s Tralee Warriors, due to be played this Saturday,  will now revert to a Men's Super League fixture.

However, Maree can still appeal the National Appeals Committee (NAC) decision to the Sports Disputes Solution Ireland (SDSI) for arbitration. Maree now have five days to notify the SDSI should they intend to appeal.
