A crowd in excess of 42,000 is expected to attend Saturday evening's Munster SHC meeting of Cork and Limerick at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, confirms Cork GAA PRO Francis Kenneally.
That figure would mark a record for a GAA fixture at the venue since the redeveloped Páirc was reopened in 2017.
The previous record for a hurling game was the 40,000 that attended the Munster meeting of the same counties in 2022.
The record attendance for any match since the Páirc was redeveloped is the full house of 45,000 for the Liam Miller tribute match in September 2018.
Last year, 41,400 fans watched Munster beat a South Africa selection in a rugby fixture at the venue.
The record attendance at the original Páirc Uí Chaoimh was 49,961 for the 1985 Munster Final meeting of Cork and Tipperary.
Saturday evening is a do-or-die fixture for Cork, with at least a draw required to stay alive in the championship. Predicted high temperatures on Leeside and no live free-to-air coverage of the game have ensured rapid ticket sales.
Taoiseach Simon Harris has said it is wrong the game is being screened behind a paywall on GAAGO and asked the GAA to reconsider its strategy around broadcasting matches.
“It being behind a paywall isn’t what people who support the GAA in every community want to see. They really need to reflect on that.”
