Jack Cahalane is being lined up for Cork's 2025 senior hurling squad after confirming he will not be part of John Cleary's football panel next season.

As first reported by the Southern Star, Castlehaven forward Cahalane has stepped away from the football panel, meaning Cleary will be without yet another forward option having already lost St Finbarr's sharpshooter Steven Sherlock and Damien Gore of Kilmacabea.

Cleary will also be short the talents of John O'Rourke, Killian O'Hanlon and Tom Clancy, who have all retired from inter-county action, as well as Kevin Flahive, who is going travelling for the year.

As Castlehaven beat Nemo Rangers to successfully defend their Cork Premier SFC title, Cahalane was their top performer, winning match of the match in the process. Cahalane tallied 2-14 in total throughout their county campaign.

The Irish Examiner understands that, given he won't be involved with the footballers, Cahalane - who plays his hurling with St Finbarr's - is being lined up to join his older brothers Conor and Damien in Pat Ryan's Cork hurling panel for 2025.

Cahalane is set to join a forward unit that impressed thoroughly en route to the All-Ireland final, before agonisingly falling to defeat after extra time.
