The GAA’s higher education competitions committee have confirmed the new football rules will not be operation in the Sigerson Cup and lower third level football competitions.
An email was issued to colleges and universities shortly after the conclusion of Saturday’s Special Congress where all the Football Review Committee (FRC) recommendations were passed.
“We thank everyone for their recent feedback in relation to the possible implementation of the new FRC rules for our championships,” read the email. “Taking everything into account we wish to advised you that the new FRC Rules as approved at the Special Congress held on Saturday 30th November will not feature in any of the 2024-25 Electric Ireland Higher Education Football Championships.”
A number of managers are understood to be dismayed with the decision considering several inter-county players are involved and the new rules are to apply at all adult levels from March 31 at the latest.
The Sigerson Cup draw is to take place next month with the first round games expected to be arranged for early January and the final pencilled in for Wednesday, February 12.
