MIDLETON CBS have bagged themselves an automatic spot in the quarter finals of the Munster Schools SHC (Dr Harty Cup) after an updated draw by organisers on Thursday.
In the wake of this week's third round fixtures, the three winners of groups with four teams - CBC Cork, Ardscoil Rís Limerick and the winner of next week's Blackwater CS Lismore/Cashel CS tie - progress directly to January's knockout phase. The fourth automatic quarter-final spot was determined by a draw between the winners of the groups with three teams, namely Midleton CBS, De La Salle College and St. Flannan's, Ennis.
That draw saw Midleton nominated as the fourth automatic quarter-finalists. De La Salle College and St. Flannan's will play in the preliminary quarter-finals as a result. The draw for those games takes place next Tuesday after the remaining Lismore-Cashel game with repeat pairings being avoided.
The teams involved in that preliminary quarter-final draw are De La Salle Waterford (Group 5 winner), St Flannan's (Group 6 winner), John the Baptist CS, Hospital (Group 1 runner up), Our Lady's Templemore (Group 2 runner up) and the losers of next Tuesday's game, who will end Group 3 runners up. Also in the draw will be Nenagh CBS (Group 4 runners up), Gaelcholáiste Mhuire an Mhainistir Thuaigh (Group 5 runners up) and Thurles CBS (Group 6 runners up).
Those games will be played on December 4th with the quarters proper on January 8th. The final of the Harty Cup is slated for February 1st.
