Corn Uí Mhuirí: IS Kenmare 1-10 CnaS Bishopstown 0-4

Inbhear Sceine Kenmare continued their winning start to their first ever Corn Uí Mhuirí campaign, having too much for a hard working Bishopstown side that could only register four points.

This nine-point win coupled with the draw between Hamilton High School Bandon and Clonakilty ensures that Sean O’Shea and Ronan Buckley side’s will be in the knockout stages.

Both sides were a little cautious in the first half, packing the defences at the risk of conceding. Inbhear Sceine proved difficult to stop though with captain Jack O’Sullivan and Neal O’Shea registering braces, giving them a lead of 0-5 to 0-2 at the break. Bishopstown’s only two scores in the first period were 10th and 25th minute points respectively from Callum Caplice and Tiarnan Denieffe.

Jack Tangeny was an impressive figure for the victors on the day as Jack O’Sullivan for Inbhear Sceine and Bishopstown’s Dan O’Keeffe both stood out at midfield. Rob O’Leary reduced the deficit to two points for Bishopstown at the start of the second-half with a free but they would draw no closer as a combination of two Tageny frees along with a Neal O’Shea point put Kenmare in front by five points after 40 minutes at 0-8 to 0-3.

There was an air of inevitability about the final quarter with O’Leary getting Bishopstown’s last score, another free, in the 44th minute as Inbhear Sceine’s defence stayed calm when some pressure was applied to them. They started their push for victory with David O’Connor and substitute Kieran O’Sullivan points as the final play of the game saw Aidan O’Sullivan’s fisted effort at a goal judged to have gone over the line as Liam O’Sullivan knocked in the rebound just in case the initial effort was deemed not to have counted.

Bishopstown are out of the competition with this result as they have only pride to play for now in their final game against Clonakilty who need Kenmare to win their final group game to force a tie with Bandon for second place in the group.

The Kerry school have had a good start so far but will be well aware bigger tests lie deeper in the campaign.
