What a difference a week makes?

Last Sunday Daniel Hogan and Cathal McCarthy had a disappointing day in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh when Sarsfields lost the Cork Premier SHC final to Imokilly.

Six days later, the pair returned with Glanmire and they were victorious in a nail-biting finish to the Cork intermediate A football final.

Daniel lined out at number 10 and scored a point, he also set up Shane O’Driscoll for Glanmire’s game-defining goal a minute from time.

Cathal was introduced at half-time, and supplied a valuable set of points.

“On Sunday I was thinking how would I go again,” Daniel said. “But once you’re in Tuesday and Thursday with all the lads in training and they are buzzing, it is fairly easy to get up for it.

“Fraggie (Kieran Murphy, selector) just said it to me there, myself and Cathal are the only two to have a Premier senior hurling county medal (2023) and an intermediate football county medal now in Glanmire.” Glanmire trailed at the break 0-9 to 0-4, eventually winning 2-10 to 0-15.

“We hadn’t played at all in the first half. We were getting pushed over. Our coach (Wayne O’Donnell) is brilliant, I’d say we got nervous. It was a lot of fellas' first time playing in the Páirc.

“In the second half, Boherbue were against the wind, we pushed up on our men and got a load of turnovers.

“David O’Connor is a savage player for them and they were trying to get the ball to him. We knew if we curtailed him, and we didn’t at the best of times, we would have a chance.

“And then Shane O’Driscoll puts a rocket into the net like that. I saw him near me and I thought he was going for a point but it curled into the net. I couldn’t believe it. He has the heritage from his father John.

“We were in Fota last weekend and Pat Ryan came in and spoke to us and he said have no doubts. Everyone associates Pat with hurling but he is an unbelievable Glanmire man.”
