Cork manager John Cleary will lead the Munster team in the Football Review Committee (FRC) interprovincial tournament in Croke Park later this month.
Cleary takes charge of the province as Galway boss Pádraic Joyce oversees Connacht. Fermanagh manager Kieran Donnelly has agreed to guide Ulster and Leinster will be guided by outgoing Westmeath bainisteoir Dessie Dolan.
The semi-finals for the games will take place in GAA HQ on Friday, October 19 and will be televised live by TG4. The cup and shield finals will be broadcasted by RTÉ the following day.
Although the competition isn’t considered a revival of the Railway Cup last played eight years ago, Cleary follows in the footsteps of Cork’s 2010 All-Ireland winning selector Ger O’Sullivan who previously managed the province in 2016. Back then, two-time Down All-Ireland winning boss Pete McGrath was at the helm in Ulster, Connacht’s manager was John Tobin and Leinster’s supremo was Seán Kelly of Meath.
The games on Friday and Saturday fortnight are to be played by inter-county footballers whose respective clubs have exited their county championships. A press conference announcing the finalised rules is due to take place next week while a training session where the new rules will be explained to the participants has been scheduled for the weekend after next.
