Roscommon goalkeeper Conor Carroll is not expected play for his club Oranmore-Maree this year after he missed their opening round championship victory last weekend.
Oranmore Maree triumphed 2-16 to 0-19 against St Michaels in the Galway intermediate football championship last Saturday. Carroll did not feature and was not listed in the match programme squad.
Carroll has been linked with a transfer and it is understood he will not be involved with Oranmore-Maree for the 2024 campaign. He is a nephew of Roscommon County Board Chairperson, Brian Carroll and both of his parents are Roscommon natives.
The shot-stopper, who won a Sigerson Cup with NUI Galway in 2022, played underage for Galway from U14 on and was part of Padraic Joyce’s U20 panel in 2019 before opting for Roscommon the subsequent season. He has since become a mainstay for the seniors with his kickouts and contributions from play a key part of Davy Burke’s gameplan.
Elsewhere, former Mayo senior panellist Alan Murphy made his championship debut for Oughterard during their 0-12 to 0-8 defeat against reigning county champions Corofin.
Murphy, who has managed Oughterard since 2021, lined out as a goalkeeper. The Ballinrobe native also played and managed in the League of Ireland previously.
Former Limerick goalkeeper Donal O’Sullivan made his championship debut for Salthill-Knocknacarra in a 0-9 to 0-7 win over Mountbellew on Saturday. O’Sullivan, who previously represented Monaleen, retired from intercounty football last year.
