Lochlann Walsh has been elected as president of the Olympic Federation of Ireland (OFI) at an Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday night.
Walsh takes over from Sarah Keane who has held the position since 2017 and led the way in a radical rebranding and reorganisation of a body that had been led for 28 years by Pat Hickey.
The new man steps up to the role having been an OFI board member since 2017. Walsh also has 20 years of experience in sports administrative roles and a business background in large multinationals.
There was one other candidate for the role. Moira Aston is the CEO of Canoeing Ireland having worked with Athletics Ireland for twelve years in senior roles.
“Thank you for placing your trust in me,” said Walsh. “During the past few weeks I got to know many of you in the federations and I look forward to taking up the position. I’d like to congratulate Moira on a positive and forward looking campaign.”
Sarah O’Shea has also been elected as vice-president of the OFI.
