If you’re thinking about nursing or midwifery as a career choice, the University of Limerick Summer Camp 2024 will take place on Wednesday 26th & Thursday 27th June 2024 at the Department of Nursing & Midwifery.

The two-day interactive camp is suitable for transition year, fifth and sixth year students who have an interest in nursing or midwifery as a career choice. The overall aim of the camp is to provide secondary school students with the opportunity to acquire a firsthand insight into studying nursing or midwifery in the University of Limerick.

The camp is very much hands-on where students will be using and interacting with clinical skills teaching equipment under the supervision of faculty members, and will be hosted in the Clinical Skills Laboratory suite in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery in the Health Science Building. Students will get the opportunity to participate in various interactive hands-on sessions in a simulated clinical environment. UL will be hosting a variety of interactive sessions which will focus on each nursing and midwifery career option. Students will get the chance to explore what each speciality entails in great detail.

Testimonial from first year student, Madison Crosse, first year student studying BSc Nursing (Intellectual Disability);

“When I was in secondary school I attended the UL Nursing and Midwifery summer camp. Attending this summer camp was a fantastic experience where I was able to have a look at all the resources UL had to offer for the nursing programs they provide. Being able to see each lab for each specialty and get a brief overview of the differences between the specialties helped me decide which route I wanted to go down. It gave everyone who attended a chance to speak to possible future lectures and ask any questions regarding any concerns they may have had. I have always known I wanted to help people and the Intellectual Disability Nursing program UL offers caught my interest.”

The camp will run over two days and the cost is €70. Booking is essential as places are limited. For an application form, please e-mail Bernadette.hickey@ul.ie
