Journalist Alison Comyn will contest the next general election for Fianna Fáil in Co Louth, the party has confirmed.
Ms Comyn, who was born in Drogheda, has worked as a print and broadcast journalist for more than 30 years. She has previously worked for RTÉ, BBC, Sky News, and UTV Ireland, alongside a stint at Independent Newspapers.
During her time at UTV Ireland, she hosted
which won an IFTA award in 2016 for its coverage of Brexit.She said that having been "born, raised and educated in Drogheda" she knows the "issues that affect our daily lives, and I’m deeply connected to the heartbeat of our town and region".
“I know the stories, struggles, and successes that have shaped our community because I live in the region and experience them myself, meaning I’m not just a candidate, but a neighbour who is invested in the future of our region.”

Ms Comyn said that the Drogheda area has faced “serious challenges” in recent years, of which the town is “not out of the woods yet”.
“I honestly believe it can be a thriving, vibrant community where everyone can flourish,” she added.
Ms Comyn will join incumbent senator Erin McGreehan on the ticket in Louth.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin said that Ms Comyn would be an “excellent addition” to the party’s election ticket in Co Louth.
“She is a very accomplished candidate, who will bring a wealth of experience to the campaign,” Mr Martin said.
The addition of Ms Comyn to Fianna Fáil’s general election candidates follows TV presenter Gráinne Seoige officially putting her name forward to contest for the party in Galway West.
Ms Seoige is seeking to replace outgoing TD Eamon Ó Cuiv, who announced his retirement in recent months.
