A Sinn Féin TD has lodged a defamation claim against a national newspaper.
Sinn Féin TD Chris Andrews has initiated legal action against the Irish Times over the reporting of a comment he made the day after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
Mr Andrews, a TD for Dublin Bay South, has also lodged defamation proceedings in the High Court against Harry McGee, the Irish Times' political correspondent.
The article in question included comments made by Mr Andrews on social media about the events in Israel, including his responses to a post on X, formerly Twitter, by Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the EU Commission.
Mr Andrews has been a TD for Sinn Féin since the 2020 general election. From 2007 to 2011, he was also a Fianna Fáil TD. He departed Fianna Fáil in 2012.
