Dara Calleary has been appointed a Minister of State to replace Robert Troy.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced the appointment of the Mayo TD after Cabinet this morning.
Mr Calleary, who was forced to resign after the golfgate controversy, had been tipped for the role along with Kildare TD James Lawless.
Mr Troy resigned as Minister of State with responsibility for trade promotion last week, after 10 days of controversy about his failure to declare details of his property interests.
Announcing the appointment, Mr Martin said that having previously been a Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment from 2009 to 2011, Minister Calleary brings a wealth of experience to the role.
“A professional and diligent worker, I have no doubt Dara will hit the ground running, in helping indigenous Irish companies face the significant challenges and opportunities ahead, as well as overseeing important legislative reforms of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board.”
Mr Calleary said he now is looking forward to "getting stuck in straight away and continuing to build on the great work my colleague Robert Troy TD has done in the department."
He added: “This is a great personal honour and I am very grateful to my family, my colleagues, my supporters and my constituents for their ongoing support”.
Mr Calleary also worked with Chambers Ireland from 1999 to 2006.
