A number of roads were flooded overnight, rendering them "impassable", as heavy rain fell across Cork, Kerry and Waterford.
The status orange rain warning from Met Éireann remains in place for Cork and Kerry until midday, while a status yellow alert expires in Waterford at the same time.
While the majority of the drainage network seems to have dealt with the flood risk, there are multiple roads in Cork that the Cork County Council have urged people to avoid on Thursday morning.
At time of writing, these included:
- The R621-0 is impassable. Townlands on this road are: Kilvealaton West, Newberry, Gortnagross.
- The R587-167 - Townlands on this road are: Demesne, Derreens, Derrylahan, Ardcahan.
Ardcahan Bridge is also flooded, with the council warning pedestrians away from it.
Met Éireann warn that persistent rain, heavy at times, accompanied by strong onshore winds, high tides, and elevated river levels will lead to flooding, wave overtopping and difficult travelling conditions.
