A pedestrian, aged in his 50s, has been hospitalised following a hit-and-run near Cork city on Saturday.

At around 6.45pm, gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Rathpeacon Road in Rathpeacon.

The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

The car and the driver failed to remain at the scene, but the car was later located a short distance away.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Road users who may have dash-cam footage of the incident from 6.20pm to 6.55pm are urged to contact Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station at (021) 4558510, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
