The young Limerick mother who was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Rathkeale, Co Limerick, will be laid to rest this weekend.
Marguerita ‘Maggie’ O’Rourke (née Sheridan) died on December 21 in University Hospital Limerick, after a van drove into a set of gates where she was standing.
She had given birth to her first child, her son Edward, three weeks ago.
She will repose at Cross’ Funeral Home in Limerick city on Saturday, December 28 from 2pm to 4pm, followed by removal to St Mary’s Church Rathkeale.
Her funeral mass will take place on Sunday at 12.30pm, with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
Tributes have been pouring in for the young woman who has been described as “an angel” who “loved horses” and was “everyone’s friend”.
Her brother, Freddy, paid tribute to Marguerita on Christmas Day.
“My first Christmas without you and it's one billion percent not the same or Marguerita and it’s never going to be the same without you, not just Christmas. My life will never be the same or, Maggie but you left us a very special boy I know his mama should be here whit him but unfortunately life didn’t go that way.” Freddy remembered a few memories with his sister.
Her father, John, thanked those who showed up to offer their support.
“I want to say thanks to the guards, the nurses, the doctors, the priests, the people in Rathkeale, the travelling people and everyone for the messages,” he wrote on Facebook. “The local shops, hotels, for everything and everyone who called up to my house and everyone over the world, thank you.”
Mr Sheridan continued: “Rest in peace my beautiful daughter. Marguerita Sheridan, you are a true legend.”
Ms Sheridan will be sadly missed by her husband Denis, baby son Edward, parents John and Doite, sister Eileen, brothers Paddy and Freddy, uncle James, Patrick, Michael, and Danny (Sheridan), aunts Eileen and Brigid, Edward and Mary Teresa O’Rourke, Danny and Edward O'Rourke, as well as by extended family and friends.
A man was charged in connection with the death of Ms Sheridan. He appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court, charged with five separate offences.
