The publican who owns Cork city’s only LGBT+ late-night club says it’s business as usual at the venue, which opens under a new name tonight.

Paul Montgomery, who owns Clancy’s and JJ Walsh’s, confirmed on Thursday that the gay bar and nightclub venue on Oliver Plunkett St, which opened nine months ago as Vibe, will open as usual tonight under its new name, Wilde.

It follows claims online earlier this week that Vibe was closing.

It opened in January in the bar formerly known as Conway’s Yard, to the rear of JJ Walsh’s.

However, in a post on Vibe’s social media earlier this week, it was claimed that it would no longer run at the venue at 64/65 Oliver Plunkett St.

The post has since been deleted. The social media channels have also been deactivated.

Mr Montgomery said the post was misleading, had created confusion, and he moved to reassure patrons that the venue will continue to operate as normal, in the same space, with the same staff, security, and entertainment as before.

“Nothing changes. This venture was all about creating a safe space, and that continues," he said.

All that has changed is the name. It’s business as usual.

Wilde, which now has its own dedicated social media presence, will be open from 7pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with plans to open on Sunday nights under consideration.
