A man has died after he was hit by a van in Cork this evening.
The deceased, who was in his early 50s, had been using the van before it hit him by a housing estate in Glanmire, it is understood.
He had stopped in a relative's house to help with a job before the fatal incident.
The van he had been driving rolled away and struck him when he tried to stop it, it is understood.
Three units of the fire service, the ambulance and gardaí attended the scene.
He was married with children, it is believed.
Emergency services attended the incident but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardaí are currently carrying out a technical examination at the scene.
The man’s death is not currently being treated as suspicious.
His body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where an autopsy will take place.
A garda statement said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic incident in Glanmire, Cork this evening.
“The incident involving a single vehicle occurred at a premises near Church Hill at approximately 5.15pm.
“A male in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem examination is due to take place at a later stage.
“The scene is currently preserved to facilitate a technical examination which remains ongoing.”
