Gardaí said there were no reports of injuries.
The arrested man, in his 30s, is currently being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at a Garda Station in Cork.

The device, believed to be a hand grenade, was found on arrival and the area was then evacuated. A cordon was also put in place.
The Defence Forces Ordnance Disposal team carried out a controlled explosion.
Residents have since been allowed to return to their homes.
