On Friday, Revenue officers seized around 288.6kg of herbal cannabis, 72.8kg of cannabis resin, and 3.3kg of cocaine with an estimated value of €6,443,640.

The illegal drugs were discovered when an accompanied freight unit which had disembarked a ferry from Dunkirk, France, was stopped and searched.

A man, 40s, was arrested by gardaí and is currently being held at a Garda station in Co Wexford under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1996.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.

Today's seizure comes in the wake of the seizure of €32.8m worth of crystal meth in the Port of Cork yesterday.

The consignment seized on Friday morning was due to be exported and believed bound for Australia, which is one of the biggest consumers per person of crystal meth in the world.

Gardaí said the quantity seized is 546kg.

The drugs would have a final estimated street value of €32.8m in Ireland, according to gardaí, but could be worth up to 10 times that in Australia.
