“I will fucking kill you,” a 39-year-old man declared to security staff as he was put out of The Old Oak pub in Cork city.
On Thursday, at Cork District Court, Ali Faizi, who lives at an apartment on Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, pleaded guilty to engaging in threatening behaviour and being drunk and a source of danger during the incident.
The incident happened at 1.45am on November 19 when it was reported that he had become aggressive to security staff at the premises on Caroline Street.
Gardaí arrived and arrested Faizi on public order charges.
Sergeant Aisling Murphy said the accused was previously given 150 hours of community service in a similar case in March 2021.
Defence solicitor Frank Buttimer said: “He is a 39-year-old Afghani national who has been here since 2016/17. He has substantially lost contact with his home country.
“He is a highly skilled tailor and his employer rang me out of concern for him saying that this man does make a positive contribution to society.”
Despite the view on alcohol in his home country, Mr Buttimer said that Faizi acknowledges that he has an alcohol difficulty.
“He avoided alcohol for one and a half years but last month he fell into some company and took it to excess. He should not have taken it at all. It looks like he was required to leave the premises and he was verbally abusive.
“He feels he let himself down and let down people who have good regard for him. I don’t think you will be seeing him again,” Mr Buttimer said.
Judge Mary Dorgan said: “I will put him on peace bond for 12 months. The ball is in his court now.”
