A man in Cork is due in court after being caught driving four times over the legal alcohol limit.

A garda spokesperson said officers in Cork City first heard and then spotted a vehicle travelling with smoke billowing out of a blown out tire on the night of Thursday, October 9.

Gardaí then stopped the car and breathalyzed the driver, who tested four times over the legal limit for alcohol.

They also said the man appeared to have been "literally drinking and driving" as they found beer cans inside the vehicle.

The man was then arrested. He will appear in court at a later date.
