Richard Satchwell, who was previously charged with the murder of his wife Tina Satchwell, has been further remanded in custody for a month having appeared at Clonmel District Court in Co. Tipperary on Tuesday morning.
Mr Satchwell (57) who is originally from Leicester in the UK but was living in Grattan Street in Youghal, Co. Cork, was charged with the murder of his wife Tina at a special sitting of Cashel District Court last month. The alleged offence occurred on March 20, 2017.
Tina Satchwell was reported missing six years ago last March. The missing persons case was upgraded to a murder investigation last month. The remains of the 45-year-old were found buried in her home by gardaí searching the property on October 11 last.
Sgt Tom O’Brien on Tuesday told the Clonmel Court that DPP directions are awaited in the case. He applied for a further remand in custody of the accused for a four-week duration.
Mr Satchwell, who appeared by video link from prison, told Judge Brian O’Shea that he consented to the further remand in custody. Judge O’Shea remanded Mr Satchwell in custody until December 5 next.
Mr Satchwell was denied bail at a High Court sitting at Cloverhill Court last week. Gardaí objected to bail saying that the accused was a flight risk.
Refusing the application, Judge Siobhan Lankford said that Mr Satchwell faces "very serious charges, the most serious charges on the criminal canon."
Meanwhile, Mr Satchwell first appeared in court on October 14 in connection with the alleged offence. On that occasion, evidence of arrest charge and caution was given by Detective Garda David Kelleher.
Det. Garda Kelleher said that Mr Satchwell had been formally charged with the murder of his wife in Cobh Garda Station the previous day. Legal aid was granted in the case.
Tina Satchwell was a native of St Bernard’s Place in Fermoy, Co. Cork, and was living in Youghal at the time of her death.
