Gardaí targeting modes of transport suspected of being linked to criminal activity have seized 33 motorbikes, e-bikes and e-scooters during a day of action in Dublin.

Twenty-four properties were searched on Tuesday on foot of warrants in the Dublin region as part of Operation Meacán.

The operation aims to tackle the use of electric vehicles for drug distribution, money laundering, and transporting firearms.

These are often driven on footpaths, parks and laneways in order to avoid detection by gardaí.

During the searches, gardaí seized one motorbike which was believed to have been stolen in October, six high-powered electric motorbikes, six e-bikes, and 20 e-scooters.

Nineteen shotgun cartridges, designers goods worth over €9,000, and €3,410 in cash were also seized, as well as drugs worth €575.

The shotgun cartridges seized will now be sent for further ballistic and forensic analysis.

No arrests have been made at this time, and gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
