More than €380k in cash seized after car intercepted by gardaí

More than €380,000 in cash was found in a car intercepted by gardaí on the M1 motorway in Co Louth earlier today.

It followed a planned operation that was put in place by the divisional drugs and detective units at Drogheda Garda Station.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman aged in her 30s, was arrested and detained for questioning under drug trafficking legislation.

Gardaí said the investigation was part of a long-running operation combating organised crime gangs in the area.

A statement issued by Garda HQ said: “Gardaí in Drogheda have seized cash exceeding €380,000 and arrested one individual during an operation in Drogheda, Co Louth, on Wednesday, 16 October.

“As part of Operation Stratus, which targets organised criminal activity in the Drogheda area, Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs and Detective Units at Drogheda Garda Station conducted a search operation earlier today.” 

The statement said: “During the operation, a car was intercepted on the M1 motorway, resulting in the discovery and seizure of over €380,000.

“The occupant of the vehicle, a woman in her 30s, was arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in County Louth.”
