Five men have been arrested after a "disturbance" outside a premises in Donegal Town which led to a number of gardaí being assaulted.
Following a call from a member of the public, gardaí say they responded to the incident on Quay Street in the town at around 2am on the morning of Sunday, October 6.
As they attempted to deal with the situation, the officers who responded were assaulted by the men.
A garda spokesperson said that number of additional garda units arrived to the scene to provide assistance a short time later, and that "incapacitant spray was used as part of an escalated response to the public order incidents".
Five men, aged between their late teens and early 20s, were arrested and later charged in connection with the incident.
All five are due to appear before a sitting of Donegal District Court on November 6.
The officers who were assaulted remained on duty until 7am on Sunday morning.
