Gardaí have released new images of missing schoolboy Kyran Durnin as the investigation into his disappearance and murder continues.

In an update on Thursday afternoon, gardaí said that, despite extensive enquiries and support from the public to date, they have been unable to locate Kyran.

As part of their enquiries, gardaí released two new images provided to them of Kyran. The images were taken in 2022 when he was six-years-old. Kyran would be turning eight later this year.

The last confirmed sighting of Kyran Durnin was in May 2022. He was reported missing in August of this year before gardaí, having been unable to uncover any evidence that led them to believe Kyran was still alive, launched a murder investigation in October.

It is suspected that Kyran may have died in 2022.

To date, two people - a woman and a man - have been arrested on suspicion of Kyran's murder.

On Tuesday morning, the male suspect, 36-year-old Anthony Maguire was found dead at his home at his home in Drogheda. He had been arrested in connection with the case last week before subsequently being released without charge.

It is understood that the circumstances in which he was found and the nature of his death, together with no sign of forced entry, strongly suggest he had taken his own life.

Mr Maguire's house and its adjoining garden were also the subject of searches last week.

A garda spokesperson said the force is aware of "the extensive public commentary on this investigation including speculation, rumours and theories" on what may have happened to Kyran.

The spokesperson said An Garda Síochána continue to appeal to the public, notwithstanding all the information on the case in the public domain, "to not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have".

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence," the spokesperson added.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact the investigation at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on (1800) 666 111 or via any Garda Station.
