Gardaí are investigating a serious assault on a juvenile while he was attending the Funderland amusement park in Dublin on Monday.
The victim, aged 16, suffered significant injuries in the attack. Two other juveniles, aged in their mid-teens, were arrested shortly after.
The injured party was brought to hospital, where his injuries were treated.
A garda investigation is progressing into the case, which is being treated as assault causing harm.
Gardaí were alerted to the RDS, Ballsbridge, where the annual event takes place over the Christmas period.
Funderland is hugely popular, particularly among teenagers. The sprawling theme park operates inside and outside the Simmonscourt part of the RDS. Private security is employed at the event.
Gardaí ensured the injured party was taken to hospital and, on foot of descriptions of his attackers and other evidence, carried out a search of the area.
This resulted in the arrest nearby of two other juveniles, aged between 15 and 16. The parents of all three boys were contacted.
A garda statement said: “We can confirm that gardaí at Donnybrook are investigating the assault of a male youth aged in his mid-teens following an incident at a venue in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, on December 30. The youth was brought to hospital for assessment.
“Two other youths, both male, aged in their mid-teens were arrested nearby in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing.”
The youths were since released from custody.
A decision will now be made whether or not to refer the case to the Garda Juvenile Liaison Programme or if they should be prosecuted in the criminal courts. Child offenders have to meet certain conditions before being accepted into the programme.
Officers will examine their previous level of offending, if any, whether or not they accept they committed the crime and their willingness to engage in the programme.
