Over €16,000 has been donated towards the children of a husband and wife who lost their lives ina hit-and-run incident in Dublin on St Stephens Day.
Georgina and Anto Hogg died in a road traffic incident earlier this week, involving a car and four pedestrians at Blanchardstown Road North in Dublin 15.
Georgina was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her husband Anto was conveyed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown for treatment of serious injuries. On Friday morning, gardaí confirmed he had died.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to provide for the late couple's children, Ryan and Becky, who have been “left without their loving Mam and Dad”.
“While nothing can replace the love and presence of Georgina and Anto, we hope to ease the financial burden and create a foundation for their children to thrive,” the organiser Nicole Kinsella said.
Ms Kinsella described the couple as not only “cherished parents”, but “incredible individuals who touched the lives of everyone they met”.
“They were always the first to lend a helping hand, to support others without hesitation, and to spread kindness wherever they went,” she said.
She said the community would rally together to ensure the children are supported during this “unimaginable time”.
“We are calling on the incredible spirit of Dublin 15 and the wider community to come together for Ryan and Becky. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and is deeply appreciated,” she added.
The fundraiser hopes to honour the memory of the late Georgina and Anto by “giving back the kindness they so freely gave to others”.
On Thursday night, investigating gardaí arrested a man in connection with the incident.
He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Dublin.
