Female pedestrian, 70s, dies after being hit by car in Carlow

A pedestrian in her 70s has died after she was hit by a car on the N80 in Carlow on Friday.

The incident occurred in the townland of Rathcrogue at approximately 6.30pm.

Her body has been taken to the Mortuary in Waterford Regional Hospital where an autopsy will take place in due course.

The driver of the car, aged in his 20s, was uninjured.

The road is currently closed and will remain so overnight.

A technical examination of the scene will take place on Saturday morning.

Local diversions are in place, a Garda spokesperson said.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to gardaí.
