Funeral details announced for homeless victim of fatal assault in Cork

The family of the homeless woman who was fatally assaulted at a soup kitchen in Cork city last Sunday night have thanked the medical staff who tended to her as funeral details have been announced.
Vanessa O’Callaghan, a 36-year-old mum of three from Coach Street, Middle Parish and late of Blackpool, died in hospital on Wednesday after the assault on Patrick’s Street on Sunday night.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the death but a garda investigation is ongoing.
In a death notice published on Saturday afternoon, her family said they wished to “acknowledge the care given to Vanessa by the Doctors at the C.U.H., especially Dr. Paudie, the Gardaí, and all those who attended Vanessa”.
Following the assault, a member of the Kindness Krew soup kitchen volunteer team administered CPR to Vanessa before emergency services arrived at the scene, close to the former Savoy.
Vanessa will lie in repose in Coughlan’s Funeral Home, Shandon Street on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm and on Monday from 10am, with Rosary at 5.00pm. She will be laid to rest in St Catherine’s cemetery in Kilcully after a 10am Requiem Mass on Tuesday morning in St Peter and Paul’s Church, Paul Street.
A vigil for Vanessa will take place on St Patrick's Street at 7.30pm on Sunday.
She is survived by her mother, three children and six siblings.
