Met Éireann has issued a status yellow fog warning for most of the country.

The warning, which will come into effect at 6pm on Tuesday, has been put in place for all of Munster and Leinster as well as Cavan, Monaghan, Galway, Leitrim, and Roscommon.

The forecaster has said there will be "widespread mist and fog" until 10am on Wednesday, when the warning will end.

Potential impacts include poor visibility and hazardous travelling conditions, the forecaster said.

A similar warning had been issued on Monday night, running into Tuesday morning.

Met Éireann said Tuesday night will be "calm and foggy once again, especially across the south midlands".

More generally, it will be dry, apart from the odd spot of drizzle with the temperature falling to lows of 1C to 5C.

Wednesday will see the fog clear to leave mostly cloudy skies with "some sunny spells in parts".

"While there will be a good deal of dry weather, it will be damp in places with patches of mist and drizzle, especially affecting northwest areas," Met Éireann said.

The outlook for the rest of the week will see "generally cloudy" weather with "patchy rain and drizzle".
