Most motorists have escaped a toll increase for next year but buses, coaches and HGVs will pay more to use the country's main toll roads from January 1.

Tolls on the Dublin Port Tunnel southbound are also set to rise from €12 to €13 at peak morning times from January 1 in a bid to preserve tunnel capacity for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), with M50 prices set to increase for motorists without a tag or video account.

The moves were confirmed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) on Wednesday as it set out the approved new toll prices for 2025.

There are 10 toll roads on the national road network - eight are operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) model and two are operated directly on behalf of TII - the M50-eFLow barrier-free toll, and the Dublin Port Tunnel.

Under the approved toll plans for 2025, there will be no increase for cars on the eight PPP toll roads - the M1, M3, M4, M7/M8, M8, N18 Limerick Tunnel, and N25 Waterford – with the exception of the M4 Kilcock to Kinnegad section where there will be a 10c increase.

However, there will be a 10c increase for buses, coaches and HGVs on the eight PPP toll roads, except for the M3 where for HGVs below 3,500kg, the tolls remain unchanged.

Also, on the M4 Kilcock to Kinnegad, HGVs exceeding 3,500kg will have a 20c increase.

Registered with a tag

There will be no toll increase on the M50 for cars that are registered with a tag or video account, but there will be 10c increase for cars, buses, coaches, and lighter goods vehicles that do not have a tag or video account.

HGVs on the M50 exceeding 10,000kg with tag and video account will have a 10c increase, and there will be a 20c increase for unregistered HGVs that do not have a tag or video account.

The Dublin Port Tunnel toll will increase from €12 to €13 for southbound traffic at morning peak – a move TII said is warranted to preserve capacity for HGVs which have free travel through the tunnel at all times.

The remaining tunnel tolls remain unchanged.

The TII board approved the various increases following the application of the relevant CPI inflation figure for August 2023 to August 2024 of 1.7%.

The tolling income collected by TII is combined with Exchequer funding to pay for TII’s annual protection and renewal of national roads.
