Teenage boy dies in collision between car and e-scooter in Kilkenny

A teenage boy has died following a collision between a car and e-scooter in Kilkenny.

The collision took place shortly after 6pm on Saturday along the Tullaroan road, Bonnettstown, Kilkenny between a car and the 14-year-old who was on an e-scooter.

Emergency services and gardaí rushed to the scene and the teenager was brought to nearby St Luke’s General Hospital, but he passed away earlier today.

The driver of the car was not injured.

A postmortem examination is expected to take place in the coming days.

Gardai in Kilkenny are appealing to anyone who may have been at the location of the crash between 6pm and 6.30pm on Saturday, or motorists with dash-cam footage, to contact them.

In a statement, gardaí added that the road was closed overnight to facilitate a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, which took place this morning. The road has since reopened to traffic.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist in his 30s was airlifted to Cork University Hospital after his bike hit a wall on a stretch of road in Castlefreke, West Cork, on Sunday morning.
