A childcare worker who risked her life to protect three children from being stabbed outside their school has been discharged from hospital.
Leanne Flynn suffered serious injuries when she used her body as a human shield during the incident.
Ms Flynn, who is in her 30s, was hospitalised following the incident outside Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire on Parnell Square off O’Connell Street on November 23.
She was rushed to intensive care in the Mater Hospital and has slowly improved over the last number of months.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than €5,000 for the creche worker.
The page said: “Leanne put her life on the line for those children on Parnell Square. She is a mother of one of the Belvo (Belvedere Football Club) boys and partner to one of our coaches.
“We want to start a fund dedicated to her, to help support her recovery, both physical and psychological, and also to support her two young kids and partner, our coach and friend”.
In December, a man was charged with the attempted murder of three children and assault of a care worker.
Riad Bouchaker, of no fixed abode, was also charged for the production of a 36cm kitchen knife.
He remains in custody and is to stand trial before a judge and jury.
The attack happened hours before a riot broke out in the city centre of the capital, in an incident that has put pressure on the Government and Garda Commissioner about safety and policing in Ireland.
