The first Irish baby of the New Year was born in Dublin's Rotunda Hospital just minutes after midnight last night.

Baby Arlo Robert Emmett was delivered just four minutes into 2024.

The bouncing baby boy weighed in at 4.2kg.

His delighted parents, Nicole and Robert Emmet from Ashbourne in Co Meath, are naturally thrilled.

Over in the Coombe, they welcomed their first baby of 2024 at 12.06am.

Baby Mirha was born to Sundas Khan and her husband and she weighed in at 4lbs 14oz.

Sundas, who is originally from Pakistan, praised the staff at the hospital for their kindness.

"Apart from my husband, we have no family here," she said.

"We felt completely welcomed at the Coombe and the staff were wonderful in bringing Mirha safely into the world."

Outside Dublin, Amelia Kearney was born to mum Danielle and dad Andrew at Letterkenny Hospital in Donegal.

Amelia was born at 13 minutes past midnight, weighing 3.65kg.

And at Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH), Sean Liam O'Halloran was born at 1.02am to Catherine and Brian from Mullinahone in Tipperary, weighing 4.22kg.

The first baby girl to arrive at CUMH was born at 2.39am to Sarah Coughlan and dad Mike from Killeagh, Cork.
