Musician Sinéad O’Connor died from natural causes, a UK coroner has confirmed.
The 56-year-old singer was found dead by police at her apartment in south London on July 26 last year.
Thousands turned out to mourn the death of the Irish legend which saw a procession take place along the promenade near her former home in Bray, Co Wicklow.
In a statement to the
today the coroner at Southwark Coroner's Court said: “This is to confirm that Ms O’Connor died of natural causes.“The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death.
“Any further enquiries should be directed to the Registrar at Lambeth. No further comments will be made.”
The news comes a day after RTÉ broadcast a documentary on the Dubliner with Christy Moore saying: “She had a rebel heart, a rebel soul. She wasn’t a mainstream girl.”
The programme which reflected on her influence on Irish culture and life also had contributions from David Holmes, Imelda May, and many more.
At the time of her death police said Sinéad’s death was not being treated as suspicious.
The mother of four was found “unresponsive” at a house in southeast London, where police believed she had been living for the past few months.
In a statement issued to the
at the time a spokesperson said: “Police were called at 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area.”Her death came just 18 months after her third child, Shane, died when he was 17.
