A five-year-old girl continues to fight for her life in hospital following a knife attack in Dublin on Thursday afternoon.
Five people, including three young children, were injured in the incident that occurred outside primary school Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire on Parnell Square East.
A woman was also seriously injured while two other children, a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, suffered less serious injuries. Gardaí said they "continue to investigate all the circumstances of the serious assault" which happened shortly after 1.30pm.
The five-year-old girl, who was seriously injured during the incident, remains in a critical condition in CHI Temple Street. Another girl, six, continues to receive medical treatment for less serious injuries in CHI Crumlin.
A five-year-old boy was discharged from CHI Crumlin on Thursday evening. Gardaí say a woman in her 30s remains in a serious condition in the Mater Hospital.
A man in his 50s also remains in serious condition in a hospital in the Dublin Region. On Thursday, gardaí said a man who sustained serious injuries at the scene is a person of interest in their investigation.
Initially, gardaí said they were “satisfied there is no terrorist link” to the stabbings but at a Thursday evening press conference Garda Commissioner Drew Harris stopped short of definitively ruling out a terrorist motive.
“I have never ruled out any possible motive for this attack… all lines of inquiry are open to determine the motive for this attack,” he said.
The scene remains sealed off at this time. The road is currently closed to traffic and diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing to any person with any information on this attack to contact investigating gardaí.
"Investigating gardaí are also appealing to any person who may have mobile phone footage of the attack or the immediate aftermath to make this footage available to An Garda Síochána," a garda spokesperson said.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda Station 01 666 8600 the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
In the aftermath of the attack, protests and riots broke out in Dublin city centre, which Mr Harris described as "huge destruction by a riotous mob".
Some 34 people have been arrested in the wake of the riots, and of those, 32 have been charged and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Friday morning.
