French police open investigation into alleged rape of Irish rugby fan

French police have opened an investigation into the alleged rape of an Irish rugby supporter in Bordeaux.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on Saturday evening following Ireland's victory over Romania in the city.

Members of An Garda Síochána have been deployed in France for the duration of the Rugby World Cup and are liaising with the local authorities in the region in connection with the alleged incident.

Prosecutors in Bordeaux are said to be looking for three men in relation to the incident, with local outlet L'Independent reporting that the woman in question was taken to hospital shortly after midnight having allegedly been dragged into an alleyway.
