Ikea Ireland calls for improved Dublin Bus service so staff can get to work earlier
Ikea Ireland wants an improved Dublin Bus service to get their staff to work earlier.
It says the earliest bus available to workers on weekdays gets them to its store in Ballymun for just after 8am.
The Swedish retailer says that given the early shifts, an option for buses to arrive from 6am would be welcomed.
Ikea employs more than 700 workers at its two stores in Ballymun and Carrickmines.
The request is included in its submission to the National Transport Authority in relation to the redesign of the bus network.
The NTA has published 10 of the 16 proposed core bus corridors, details on the remaining 6 will be released later this month.
Councillor Paul McAuliffe, Chair of Ballymun's Economic Committee, is confident their request will be heard.
"I believe the strength of the call from Ikea and the submission they have made is strong, it will be reflected in [the NTA's review]," he said.
"Ikea has to be one of the largest destinations on the north side in terms of retail; that site is only going to expand now with the new Decathlon store, a sports fashion retailer, so I really hope the NTA do respond.
I have to say, to date, they've been flexible, and what we need to see now is delivery," he said.
