If it wasn’t for a going-away party, this West Cork couple may never have met. Daniella Korhegyi and Daniel Hayes exchanged vows in Gougane Barra and held their reception in the Eccles Hotel & Spa in Glengarriff.

The bride, from Skibbereen, and groom, from Dunbeacon, Durrus, where the couple are based, were married in St Finbarr’s Oratory by Fr Liam Crowley.

Daniella, who lived in Kazincbarcika in Hungary for the first seven years of her life, moved to Ireland with her family 20 years ago. The couple’s paths first crossed at a party in Dublin, nine years ago, in October 2015.

“I had gone there with my close friend Marion O’Connor, from Drimoleague, and her brother Thomas O’Connor had brought his friend, Daniel. We were there as Thomas and Marion’s sister Noelle’s going-away party as she was emigrating to Canada,” says Daniella. “Daniel and I instantly had a connection. We most likely wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for attending that party in Dublin — and we haven’t looked back since.”

Nearly a decade later, Marion O’Connor was a bridesmaid on Daniella and Daniel’s big day while Thomas was a groomsman.

Daniella’s childhood friend Sarah McAuliffe was her maid of honour and her friends Bettina Gurbity and Daniel’s sister Frances McCarthy also took on bridesmaid duties. Daniel’s brother Thomas Hayes was his best man and his childhood friends Niall Keohane and John Lynch were the groomsmen.

The couple’s sons Alex and Tadgh were the pageboys and their daughter Anna was the flowergirl. The wedding photographer Dermot Sullivan (dermotsullivan.com) was behind the camera as was videographer Adam Fleming, West Cork Weddings. Photoshoots included Gougane Barra before the wedding party took a ferry to Garnish Island then it was on to the reception venue, Eccles.

“The trip out to Garnish Island was amazing and the scenery there is breathtaking, it was the perfect place to get our wedding photos taken,” says Daniella. “We were both delighted as neither of us had ever been there before.”

Their original vision was to have a small church ceremony followed by a reception with their wide circle of family and friends. “Our wedding was like something out of a movie, the weather was absolutely amazing and we really couldn’t have been any luckier with that,” says Daniella. “The ceremony was very emotional and both mothers could be seen in tears. My father, Zoltan Korhegyi, was sadly missed on the day as he passed away in 2017.”

Daniella sourced her Made With Love wedding dress, from Pearl Lane bridal boutique in Galway city. Be Glam created the bridal hairstyling. “Linda was wonderful on the day,” says Daniella.

The groom and his party were kitted out by Simply Suits, Cork. Paradise Flower, Bantry, created the floral arrangements and the band The Gamblers arrived from Galway to set toes tapping. Raising a toast were mother-of-the-bride Hilda Pinczes and the groom’s parents Margaret and Tom Hayes. The bride’s sister Hilda Mannion made the cake and wedding co-ordinator Mags Donovan Daly played a huge part in organising the big day.
