Ballymaloe Cookery School has been earmarked as a “bucket-list” destination by
actor Andrew Garfield. In an interview with Today FM’s Dave Moore, Garfield said that while he loves to cook, he is far from a chef and would love to learn some cooking skills at the popular cookery school in East Cork.
Garfield was speaking to Dave Moore alongside his
co-star Florence Pugh ahead of its release on January 1.“I love cooking. I really do enjoy it, especially for other people…. I love a Sunday roast or spaghetti bolognese.”
“I love food… I’m more of a fan of food than anything.”
Garfield spoke about the “amazing cookery school in Ireland” which he said he has been “dying to go to”.
“I've been dying to do it, it's on the bucket list,” he said.
“Hopefully, maybe a little bit later in life, when I'm really slowed down I can come [to Ireland] and refine my skills there and be in the chefs garden and farm and stuff like that… it would be fun.
“It looks absolutely like some kind of heaven… And the grounds are so beautiful and the farm looks so beautiful. [It's] just absolutely like a dream come true.”
The cookery school was established by Darina Allen and her brother Rory O’Connell in 1983 and has seen a host of well-known faces come through its doors since its inception.
Most recently, the cookery school confirmed that
contestant ‘Rev’ Richard Coles will host interviews and join a panel discussion at next summer’s Ballymaloe Festival of Food. The retired reverend took part in one of Ballymaloe Cookery School’s short courses earlier this year and will return for the festival from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18, 2025.
“We are delighted to have Richard with us. He will be joining us in the Ballymaloe Drawing Room hosting interviews, on the Scoop and a Yarn stage with Dee Laffin and joining in on a panel discussion on the Grainstore Main Stage,” a spokesperson said.
