It was a case of London calling for Jane Mahon and Michael Culhane.
Jane, an oncology nurse, and Michael, who works as a project manager in construction, met six years ago in the Irish bar The Alexandra in Clapham Common.
Jane, from Naas, Co Kildare, and Michael, from Newcastlewest, Co Limerick, have been based in London for eight years and live in Wimbledon. “The plan is to move back home to Ireland at some point!” says the bride.
In November 2022, Michael surprised Jane by popping the question during a holiday in Krakow.
It was back to his home county for their big day as they exchanged vows in February in the Church of St Peter and Paul, Crecora, Limerick, in a Mass led by Fr John Duggan and Fr Frank O’Dea.
The newlyweds chose Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa in Adare, Co Limerick, for their reception. “Our venue as it came highly recommended to us, and it really did exceed our expectations,” says Jane. “The Fitzgerald family were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us! Everything was perfect.”
The couple were keen to have “everyone we love all together to party the night away”, adds the bride. “It was better than we could have imagined — it was the best day of our lives.”
Jane wore a New White bridal gown sourced in The One by Sinéad Corcoran, Dublin.
The groom was dapper thanks to Esquire Formal Wear, Limerick city.
The bridal hairstyling was by Cathyanne Kelleher (Cathyanne Bridal Hair) and the makeup was by Nikki Burke (The Makeup Doll).
Among their special guests was Michael’s grandmother Mary Stack, 95, and his grandaunt Una Mangan, 94. “It was Michael’s grandmother Mary’s wedding anniversary — she got married on February 23, 1957,” says Jane.
Jane chose her sister Helen Mahon to be her maid of honour and her friends Karen Kenny and Kat O’Connor were her bridesmaids.
Michael’s friends Mark O’Sullivan was his best man and his friends Brian Doherty and Tadhg Mulcahy were the groomsmen.
The bride’s niece Emily Mahon and the groom’s nieces Katie Cunningham and Rianagh Cunningham loved joining the fun as flowergirls. Black Diamond Photography (https://blackdiamondphotography.ie/) and Pilgrim Films captured the occasion on camera.
Tie the Knot Weddings created the floral décor and Jane’s mother made the wedding cake.
The couple enjoyed a three-week honeymoon in South Africa and Zanzibar. “We went straight after the wedding,” says Jane.
