IF YOU’VE worked in the industry for a decade and a half, it’s a bonus when it comes to planning your own wedding as Danielle O’Donoghue discovered in the weeks leading up to her walk down the aisle to say ‘I do’ to her bridegroom Danny O’Sullivan.
Danielle is a florist from Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick, and in the past 14 years created arrangements for innumerable newlyweds as the owner and creative director of Tie the Knot Weddings.
She and Danny, an electrician, from Tullig, Killorglin, Co Kerry, were wed in October in St James’s Church in Glenbeigh, Co Kerry, and held their reception in Jack’s Coastguard Restaurant, Cromane, Co Kerry.
Fr Tony Mullins, Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick, performed the Mass and the newlyweds posed for the camera on Rossbeigh beach.
Danielle and Danny’s paths crossed over a decade ago “on a night out in Killarney through a mutual friend”, she says.
They got engaged in 2023. “Earlier this year we both decided now was the right time,” says the bride. “It was a short enough engagement, we had the whole wedding booked before we told anyone. I had it done in one night!
“We always knew we wanted a small wedding and it was always going to be at Jack’s Coastguard Restaurant in Cromane. It’s near Danny’s homeplace and the food is some of the best in the country — and there are stunning views outside."
The couple wanted to “keep things simple” and had no wedding party apart from their two sons, Conan and Rian.
"We wanted the whole day to be relaxed so decided to not have a full bridal party and let everyone enjoy the entire day with no pressures," says Danielle.
“Working in the wedding industry, as I have, for over 14 years, you see it all, and we wanted to keep things as easy as possible for our families and friends."
“We were watching every weather app known to man all that month and someone was looking down on us as it was a glorious sunny autumn day."
Guests sipped personalised cocktails at the drinks receptions. “We had Foxglove Cocktails from Cork host a drinks horsebox outside Jack’s," says the bride. "It was like a mini-Electric Picnic outside.”
The team at Tie the Knot Weddings "worked nonstop for the week transforming Jack’s and the church”, adds Danielle.
Folk singers Trevor Sexton and Ger O’Donnell performed in the church. “You could hear a pin drop; everyone was blown away by them,” says Danielle.
The bride looked stunning in a Lirio dress by Spanish designer Cortana. “I saw my dress on a blog last year and thought: If I ever were to get married, that would be ‘the one’!” she says.
“It wasn’t sold in Ireland unfortunately, so my mum and I made a weekend out of it and went to London, where we bought it at The Fall Bride.
The groom and his party wore suits sourced in Ryles Menswear.
Black Diamond Photography ( blackdiamondphotography.ie) captured the day on camera, with Sky Eye Films as the videographer.
The newlyweds, who live in Abbeyfeale, will honeymoon in Las Vegas in 2024.
