Pony Camp Chaos

The latest book by former jockey and now MEP Nina Carberry will delight younger readers.

Pony Camp Chaos is the second book in her Rowan Tree Stables series and, like its predecessor, it’s a lively adventure featuring pony lovers Grace and Aaron in their latest literary adventure.

They are helping out at summer holiday camp in the stables when a pregnant mare goes into labour.

It’s up to the pair to get to the vet on time. Unfortunately, there are many obstacles in their way and right up until the very last minute, it’s unclear whether they will be able to save the mare and her foal.

  • Featuring illustrations by Nuno Alexandre Vieira, it’s aimed at kids aged seven and up. (Gill Books, €13.99)

Eco-friendly kids shoes

shoobees.ie is an Irish business producing some of the most adorable footwear for little ones.

Its shoes come in various colourful designs featuring flowers, animals, fire engines, and spacecraft. They are also designed to provide the utmost protection for tiny feet.

The mini shoes are made of eco-friendly soft leather and non-toxic dyes. The brushed leather soles are soft yet non-slip, allowing babies to feel and grip the ground, learn to balance naturally, and minimise the risk of falling over.

The fit is wide, and the ankles are elasticated, which means they are easy to put on and likely to stay on despite babies’ efforts to remove them.

  • Shoobees come in sizes ranging from newborn to two years of age and cost €18.49.

Teen adventure day

ADHD Ireland is hosting a teen adventure day at the Glen Resource Centre in Cork City.

From 2pm to 5pm on Tuesday, August 6, this event for 13 to 17-year-olds with ADHD will involve zip wire and high ropes courses, dodgeball and splat ball games, zorbing, and an obstacle course.

Tickets are free, but spaces are limited.

  • Early booking is advised. See, eventbrite.com

Coastal adventures

The Sea School in Dunmore East is offering coastal adventure workshops on Sunday, July 20 and again on Sunday, July 27.

These educational outings combine science with art and involve exploring the coastline to discover the beauty and diversity of its wildlife.

Children are shown how to identify the tiniest animals with a microscope. They are also told stories of rocks and shells and encouraged to create art inspired by nature.

Sessions are available for children aged four to six, seven to 11, and 12 to 15.

Feeding tips for children

Mealtimes can be stressful when there’s a fussy eater in the family.

But there are tried-and-tested techniques that have been shown to help. You’ll find a wide range of these on the @feedinglittles Instagram page.

Registered dietitian and nutritionist Megan McNamee and occupational therapist and feeding specialist Judy Delaware, both Americans, run this page packed with helpful tips that can help with a variety of food related challenges for children.

There’s advice on how to introduce your children to new foods, how to balance mealtimes with snacking, what to do when your child wants ketchup with every meal, and everything in between.
